From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hámundur heljarskinn Hjörsson (c.846) was a ninth-century Viking ruler known as one of the first settlers of Eyjafjörður, Iceland. He was the twin brother of Geirmundur heljarskinn and son to the King of Hordaland, Hjör Hálfarson. [1]

According to the Landnámabók, Hámundur undertook the settlement alongside his father-in-law Helgi Eyvindarson. Hámundur was the first to arrive at Árskógsströnd, Svarfaðardalur established property South of Hörgá, in Hámundarstöðum. Having learned that his cousin Örn had founded a settlement in Arnarfjörður, he decided to move in order to be closer to him, building a new farm at Arnarnes. He was the first goði of Esphælingar clan.

Hámundur first married Helga Ingunn, a relationship from which a son, Þórir Hámundsson, was born. After Ingunn's death, he married his own sister Helga, after she had been widowed by Auðunn rotinn Þórólfsson.[2]
