The Unyeada Kingdom (Unyeada connotes warrior ancestry of the founder King Otuo Ogbolakon, which means "power of pepper" in Obolo dialect an extraction of Ijaw languages group). Niger Delta migrant group during the early 14th century AD led by King Eda (Edabiri) "a warrior" from Western Delta to settle first at "Nyamkpo" (present site of Bonny) in Eastern Delta Atlantic coast then they moved eastward of Andoni River to discovered the Old Unyeada on the stretches of Islands surrounded anastomosing creeks. The location was strategic for the control of trade and exchange from hinterland to oversea as such the kingdom became one of the important trading center in the Eastern Delta. Eda was able to built powerful kingdom with many innovations typical of ancient Ijaw city-states. The Old Unyeada was arranged according to lineage or compound.

They organized four compounds "Ibirinya" headed by follow adventurers and warriors who migrated along with Eda. The tradition clearly shows that the descendants of each linage are not necessarily one's biological children but composed of other blood relations of their ancestors as it is applicable to the heads of lineages. Eda lineage brought about eight sub-lineages, such lineages constituted the status of kingship in Old Unyeada.
