On October 3, 2005, Stanford University formally announced the formation of the Hasso Plattner Institute of Design at Stanford Institute of Design at Stanford, which during its inception years has become known as the d.School. Hasso Plattner, the cofounder of SAP AG, the German software company donated 35 million US dollars to the institute. Mechanical Engineering Professor David Kelley of the Design Division is the director of the d.School.
