Jan van der Ploeg (18 July 1977)

Jan van der Ploeg studied ecological anthropology at Leiden University. He graduated in 2001 on a MA thesis on resource conflicts between pastoralists and farmers in the North of Cameroon.

From May 2001 to August 2007 he was based in the Philippines as program coordinator of the field station of Leiden University: the Cagayan Valley Program on Environment and Development (CVPED).

Since 2002 Jan has been working on the conservation of the critically endangered Philippine crocodile (Crocodylus mindorensis). Jan is the co-team leader of a research and conservation program for the species (the CROC project) and a member of the IUCN Crocodile Specialist Group.

At present, he writes his PhD. dissertation on crocodile conservation in Southeast Asia at the Institute of Environmental Sciences (CML) of Leiden University.
