The purpose of this page is to analyze the sources currently used in Draft:Seymour Guado to see if they are permissible for establishing notability and verifiability.
Sources will be assigned one of the following categories:
Category |
---|
❌ Not independent |
❌ Independent but not SIGCOV |
⚠️ Not considered reliable |
❔ Questionable - elaborate in notes |
✔ Leaning towards acceptable |
✔ Very likely acceptable |
Name | Category | Notes |
---|---|---|
Square | ❌ Not independent | |
Japabutai | ❌ Independent but not SIGCOV | |
Anime News Network | ❌ Independent but not SIGCOV | |
Behind The Voice Actors | ❌ Independent but not SIGCOV | Listed at WP:RS/P as reliable for verifiability purposes at least, but obviously not going to help with notability |
IGDB | ❌ Independent but not SIGCOV | |
(Removed) MobyGames | ⚠️ Not considered reliable | Listed at WP:VG/S as unreliable. Removed from draft. |
Movistar | ❔ Questionable - decided on not SIGCOV | I lean towards saying this doesn't pass the test. It does dedicate a paragraph to talking about the character, but it is mostly a description of the character, not an analysis of the character. He is also one of more than thirty characters described on this one page. Another important consideration is that this source is only being used to verify some fact in the article, not to demonstrate the character's notability. |
Giant Bomb | ⚠️ Questionable with regard to reliability | Giant Bomb is permissible under certain circumstances. Reviews and news submitted by the site staff are accepted, but not content from the site's wiki. Giant Bomb is currently being used in this page to verify the contents related to the character's appearance in Final Fantasy X. However, it appears that the page sourced is on the wiki side of Giant Bomb, and is therefore not considered reliable. It should likely be replaced with either better secondary sources (or simply primary sources). |
(Book) The legend of Final fantasy X by Damien Mecheri | ✔ Leaning towards acceptable | Through this website I was able to learn that there are multiple libraries near me that apparently have this book, including my local university (much to my surprise). This source is currently being used to verify some, though not all, of Seymour's backstory in the section about his appearance in Final Fantasy X. I will have to take a look at it to see precisely how much space it dedicates to the character, but for now I'll mark this one as a "probably good." Might even be a viable replacement for how the Giant Bomb page is currently being used. |
Famitsu | ❌ Independent but not SIGCOV | Listed at WP:VG/S as a reliable source for verifiability purposes, but the way it is being used in the article is only to verify information about his appearance in Final Fantasy X-2, not to offer analysis or significant coverage. |
dissidiadb | ❌ Independent but not SIGCOV | Had to double-check if this one can even be described as independent, it appears to be unaffiliated with the developers. Still not something that could be used to establish notability. |
primagames | ❌ Independent but not SIGCOV | |
Nautiljon | ❌ Independent but not SIGCOV | |
gamekult | ❌ Independent but not SIGCOV | Listed at WP:VG/S as a reliable source for verifiability purposes, but the way it is being used in the article is only to verify information about his appearance in Theatrhythm, not to offer analysis or significant coverage. |
TheGamer | ❔ Questionable - Maybe useful, maybe not | WP:VG/S states that News posts and original content after August 2020 are considered generally reliable. As this article is from after August 2020, it meets that description. While the article does offer a paragraph of well-written commentary about the character's design and its symbolism, and it is more than just a passing mention, it still feels like it leaves a lot to be desired. This article dedicates space to a lot of characters, not just Seymour, though WP:SIGCOV does not require that a subject is the main focus of a source, just that they are discussed in detail in it. Very split on if this one counts. |
IGN | ❔ Questionable - leaning towards not SIGCOV | IGN is listed as reliable at WP:VG/S, but I'm going to lean towards no anyways because this was a sponsored and humorous article, not really any sort of serious analysis. At best it might demonstrate that the character is known for his unusual appearance and appears in RS for that reason, which could be a valid argument that it's not meaningless as far as establishing notability goes, but it's a stretch to say this one passes SIGCOV. |
Việt Giải Trí | ❔ Questionable - leaning towards not SIGCOV | I do not know Vietnamese so I'm working off limited knowledge and unreliable machine translations here, but it seems like the bulk of the information here is a description, not an analysis, of the character. Not to say there's no analysis, just that this would make a weak case for SIGCOV. |
Game Rant | ❔ Questionable - leaning towards not SIGCOV | According to WP:VG/S, Game Rant is a low-quality source which should only be used on articles with a low potential for controversy. This topic is, likely, one with a low potential for controversy. Even then, it's a short few sentences commenting on the character's theme music. I wouldn't call it a paragraph, so this is a passing mention. It's not devoid of analysis or anything, just not a convincing case for SIGCOV. |
(Removed) WhatCulture | ⚠️ Not considered reliable | Listed at WP:VG/S as unreliable. Removed from draft. |
CBR | ⚠️ Questionable with regard to reliability | WP:VG/S considers CBR to have been reliable before 2016, but unreliable post-2016. The CBR content in the article is from after 2016 and will likely be deleted. |
Green Man Gaming | ❌ Independent but not SIGCOV | This is more description than analysis and would be better suited for verifying a few facts about the character than using it as a source to establish notability. |
Yahoo! Voices | ❔ Questionable - leaning towards not SIGCOV | According to WP:VG/S, While content by reliable authors could be published there, it is highly unlikely. However, this was the result of a short discussion in 2010 that claimed Yahoo! News is blacklisted on Wikipedia, which does not seem to be true. The final discussion about Yahoo! Voices seemed to have no consensus, with editors disagreeing on the level of editorial oversight. There is no entry for Yahoo! Voices in WP:RS/P. There doesn't seem to be any issue with the author of the article cited in the draft. My takeaway is that reliability is a maybe. All that said, it is also worth noting that the article cited in the draft is primarily about Seymour's familiar and secondarily about Seymour himself, so SIGCOV would be tenuous even if the reliability of Yahoo! Voices was not in question. |
The Outline | ❌ Independent but not SIGCOV | Only mentions the subject in passing. |
Cinelinx | ❔ Questionable - leaning towards not SIGCOV | Mentions the character a few times, but still basically just in passing. |
Engadget via Yahoo! News | ❌ Independent but not SIGCOV | Both Engadget and Yahoo! News are considered reliable by WP:VG/S and WP:RS/P respectively. But the character is only mentioned in passing, so it's not particularly useful for establishing notability. |
(Removed) Sportskeeda | ⚠️ Not considered reliable | Listed at WP:VG/S as unreliable. Removed from draft. |
IDN Times | ❌ Independent but not SIGCOV | Only has a few sentences about the character. |
Official PlayStation Magazine UK | ❔ Questionable - Unable to verify | This is one of the few sources that has been transferred over from Characters of Final Fantasy X and X-2. I do not know how to access it to assess it properly. Vanilla Wizard 💙 03:40, 12 December 2023 (UTC) |
