Evaluate an article[edit]

This is where you will complete your article evaluation. Please use the template below to evaluate your selected article.

  • Name of article: Disney California Adventure (Disney California Adventure)
  • I choose to evaluate this article because I have a huge interest in Disneyland. Working in Disneyland Resort as an intern for this entire summer, I managed to gain a comprehensible understanding of both parks, Disney California Adventure and Disneyland, within the Anaheim resort. Consequently, it would be suitable for me to evaluate an article on this topic to see if any information is wrong or missing.

Lead[edit]

Guiding questions
  • Does the Lead include an introductory sentence that concisely and clearly describes the article's topic?
  • Does the Lead include a brief description of the article's major sections?
  • Does the Lead include information that is not present in the article?
  • Is the Lead concise or is it overly detailed?

Lead evaluation[edit]

The lead begins with a short sentence which clearly explains what Disney California Adventure is and where it is located. While it does not articulate what specific sections it would include in the lead, the article does introduces the brief history of the park. The other sections such as characters, areas and live entertainment are not featured in the lead. All information in the lead is present in the article. Not too short, the lead is indeed a concise one that gives only a brief introduction.

Content[edit]

Guiding questions
  • Is the article's content relevant to the topic?
  • Is the content up-to-date?
  • Is there content that is missing or content that does not belong?

Content evaluation[edit]

The article's content is closely connected to the topic as it introduces Disney California Adventure from three major aspects: history, lands and characters, together with several other minor aspects such as alcohol policy and live entertainment. Everything is DCA centered, and is up-to-date, using the new name of the pier 'Pixar Pier' correctly instead of 'Paradise Pier' it used to be called, and includes the latest attraction Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind which opened three months ago and the expansion of the park with a new Marvel land which will open in 2020. This summer, Disney started the Lion King live musical performance in Disney California Adventure; however, this article does not include that content.

Tone and Balance[edit]

Guiding questions
  • Is the article neutral?
  • Are there any claims that appear heavily biased toward a particular position?
  • Are there viewpoints that are overrepresented, or underrepresented?
  • Does the article attempt to persuade the reader in favor of one position or away from another?

Tone and balance evaluation[edit]

The article is indeed neutral. It is neither biased nor over or under-represented. It is not written in a persuasive tone, from my perspective. It is only introducing from a general perspective.

Sources and References[edit]

Guiding questions
  • Are all facts in the article backed up by a reliable secondary source of information?
  • Are the sources thorough - i.e. Do they reflect the available literature on the topic?
  • Are the sources current?
  • Check a few links. Do they work?

Sources and references evaluation[edit]

While most of the content comes from reliable secondary sources such as Disneyland official website, the 'former areas' section featuring A Bug's Land does not cite from any secondary sources at all. The sources used in this article are all closely related with the park. Information are taken not merely from Disney's official website, but also from magazines on amusement parks and entertainment industry, along with scholarly articles that analyze the business operation strategies of the park. The links work perfectly.

Organization[edit]

Guiding questions
  • Is the article well-written - i.e. Is it concise, clear, and easy to read?
  • Does the article have any grammatical or spelling errors?
  • Is the article well-organized - i.e. broken down into sections that reflect the major points of the topic?

Organization evaluation[edit]

Since the article illustrates the entertainment in the park from various aspects, it is understandable that the length is long, so from my perspective it is still a well-written one. As far as I see it, there is no grammar or spelling errors. The article breaks into eight separate sections, and each big section is further divided into smaller parts based on different lands and areas inside the park. This structure is very clear and well-divided, and can give people a clear sense of how the park is organized.

Images and Media[edit]

Guiding questions
  • Does the article include images that enhance understanding of the topic?
  • Are images well-captioned?
  • Do all images adhere to Wikipedia's copyright regulations?
  • Are the images laid out in a visually appealing way?

Images and media evaluation[edit]

The article does include 12 images. They do enhance viewers' understanding of the park in a way that each picture is either the main attraction or the symbol of that land it corresponds so that they can give viewer a clear sense of what area of the park the article is talking about. However, some of the images could be more carefully chosen, as there are a lot more with better qualities. There is one thing, however. The image that says 'The Carthay Circle Theater' might not be correct. The Carthay Circle in DCA is not the original theater but a restaurant, and in the park its official name is just The Carthay Circle. Despite that, the images are nicely laid out and adhere to Wikipedia's copyright regulation.

Checking the talk page[edit]

Guiding questions
  • What kinds of conversations, if any, are going on behind the scenes about how to represent this topic?
  • How is the article rated? Is it a part of any WikiProjects?
  • How does the way Wikipedia discusses this topic differ from the way we've talked about it in class?

Talk page evaluation[edit]

There are new links and sources that have been offered in the talk page. There is also a person talking about how Grizzly Peak looks like Vasquez Rocks. The article is rated as a C-class California article. It is part of WikiProject Disney articles. It discusses the park from a perspective that aims at educating people who are not familiar with the park or have never been there before. The information is very basic and viewer-friendly, not focusing on the professional entertainment industry aspect.

Overall impressions[edit]

Guiding questions
  • What is the article's overall status?
  • What are the article's strengths?
  • How can the article be improved?
  • How would you assess the article's completeness - i.e. Is the article well-developed? Is it underdeveloped or poorly developed?

Overall evaluation[edit]

Overall, the article gives a clear introduction to Disney California Adventure. The article has strength in giving a general introduction of the park, especially to people who are not familiar with this park. The article could be improved by checking the information to make sure nothing about the park is incorrect. To me, the article is pretty complete, with all lands introduced and most of the activities included.
