Barber beats is a microgenre of electronic music and a subgenre of vaporwave.[2]
Origin
[edit]Coined by Aloe City Wrld to refer to Haircuts for Men, and Macroblank's works.[3][4]The genre is characterized by a heavy use of sampling.[5]
Characteristics
[edit]Similar to vaporwave it samples a wide variety of smooth jazz, lounge music, and R&B from 1980's-early-2000's music.[6] Oftentimes the tracks are slowed down. The genre was popularized by Haircuts for Men, and gained popularity in 2020.[6]
Many artists state that "Everything is plundered" in their bios on sites such as YouTube and Bandcamp.[5]
