Mike Kirschner[edit]
Mike Kirschner (born February 18, 1961)is the current head coach of the Ben Davis High School Giants. He played college football at the University of Dayton and Ball State University. He first started coaching youth league football, while getting his teaching license. He then started as an assistant football coach at Warren Central High School in 1990. He became the head coach at Cascade High School from 1996 until 2000. He then went to Ben Davis High School in 2000 as an assistant coach under Dick Dullaghan, where he coached Dline and Oline.In 2004 Kirschner became the Defensive Coordinator. He became head coach in 2007 for the Giants and has an overall record of 81 wins and 53 losses. He has coached three players who have gone on to play in the NFL and one who is in the European League.
Early Life[edit]
Mike Kirschner was born in a Indianapolis east side Community Hospital on February 18, 1961. Kirschner was born to Thomas and Doris Kirschner in Greenfield, Indiana, and his parents raised him with with his brothers Steve, Bill, and John, and sisters Cindy and Judy. He attended St. Simon's Catholic grade school through the sixth grade. He spent his youth immersed in sports and developed an interest in football, baseball, and basketball; he graduated from Warren Central in May of 1979. He competed in football, Marion County Championships senior year 1978. He attended the University of Dayton from August 1979 to December of 1980. While at the University of Dayton he did participate in football as an offensive lineman. Then he transferred to Ball State University and was a walk on for one year at Ball State. He graduated from Ball State in May of 1983. He received his teaching license in December of 1989 and Masters degree from Olivet Nazarene University in May 2006.
Coaching Career[edit]
Youth League (1984-1989)[edit]
Kirschner first started his coaching career in the youth leagues. He started coaching fifth and sixth graders as a head coach for the Warren Tomahawks for six years. He had accumulated a 37-12-2 record from fall of 1984 through the fall of 1989.
Warren Central High School (1990-2000)[edit]
`Kirschner then became an assistant football coach in fall of 1990 to the Warren Central Warriors. He also became the assistant basketball and softball coach at Warren Central. He was an assistant coach til the spring of 1996. Then in the fall of 1996 he became the head football coach of the warriors. Though, his record was not as impressive at 14 wins and 26 losses, it was still a great learning experience for him. While the head coach at Warren Central he was still the assistant basketball coach and even became the head track coach and head middle school track coach for the Warriors.
Ben Davis High School (2001-Present)[edit]
After leaving Warren Central High School he came to Ben Davis High School. He became an assistant coach while at Ben Davis for seven years. While he was an assistant coach at Ben Davis he saw much success under the coaching of Dick Dullanghan and Tom Allen. The Giants won six sectional championships, three regional championships, two semi-state championships, two state championships, and three conference championships. Then when Tom Allen left Ben Davis, to coach at Wabash College, Kirschner became head coach of the Giants in spring of 2007. He has now been coaching Ben Davis as the head coach for seven years, with a record of 81 wins and 53 losses. His success at Ben Davis so far has resulted in three sectional championships, two regional championships, 1 semistate and 1 state championship this in November 2014, along with two conference championships. He was also selected as the final Colts Coach of the week, as well as the Colts High School Coach of the year for 2014. He is also was selected by the Colts as their nominee for the National Colts High School Coach of the Year! He also has been selected to be an assistant coach in the U.S. Army High School All American Football Game in San Antonio, Texas in January 2015.

Players Coached[edit]
Kirschner has coached thousands of football players and most of them have stopped playing football after high school, but there some select few that go further. Kirschner has coached 103 players in his seven years that have gone on to play collegiate football. Though out of those 103 only nineteen players went on to play division-1 football. Now out of all these 103 players, not all of them finished playing collegiate football including the division-1 football players, but there were some who did and even went further. His first year coaching he had three division-1 players that went on to the professional level. LaVarus Williams went to go play on for Eastern Michigan, but then transferred to Southern Illinois after a season ending injury. His collegiate football career was plagued with injuries and never went on to the NFL. MarQueis Gray is another player who played at the University of Minnesota and went on to play in the NFL. He first was with the San Francisco 49ers in 2012, but was then cut August 30, 2012. He is now with the Cleveland Browns as a tight end. Currently Marqueis is playing for Buffalo Bills as a tight end. Tandon Doss is the most successful player who Kirschner has coached so far. Doss played at Indiana University for three years and then went to the NFL Draft. He was drafted in the 4th round by the Baltimore Ravens in 2011 and even won a Super Bowl with the Ravens in 2012. Though he is not with the Ravens now, but the Jacksonville Jaguars he is still one of the most successful players to be coached by Kirschner.
Personal Life[edit]
Kirschner and his wife Terry (high school sweethearts), of 31 years, have three children, one son and two daughters. His eldest son Jonathan (received a college football scholarship to attend Olivet Nazarene and is currently a teacher and football coach at Hamilton Heights High School), his middle child Monica (received a college basketball scholarship to attend University of Indianapolis and is currently a Professor at Marian University). Monica is currently a Boys Varsity Basketball coach at Ben Davis HS and also the new Head Softball Coach at Ben Davis for the 2015 season, The youngest child Katie (received a golf scholarship to Marian University and is currently a senior in college). Katie is majoring in Education and plans to teach and coach as well, following in the footsteps of her siblings and father, Mike. All three of his children graduated from Ben Davis High School. His mother and father are still married living on the east side in Greenfield, Indiana.
He has been very active in the community service ventures.
