From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I am Dr. Nim Batchelor and I teach philosophy at Elon University. I am currently teaching a "What Can We Know?" course and I decided that engaging with Wikipedia would be a way of immersing students in a real-world epistemic project. The Wikipedia project is enacting a particular epistemology and I wanted my students to practice thinking about alternative epistemologies by engaging authentically with this particular one.

So, I have invited students to work in small groups and to construct original articles that they can contribute to Wikipedia. We worked on these submissions over several weeks. They have been exposed to numerous layers of peer-editing and I have provided students with my professional advice. Of course, these projects vary in their quality, but I assure you that each of them is offered for your consideration in "good faith." My students are doing their best to make a positive contribution to this on-going project.
