Un forgettable memories: Raymond Woollen Mills Limited a J & K Group Co in Thane was established in the year 1925 by two brothers from Northen India. One Mr S Srinivasan a B.A.Maths (born in 1912 in a small town in Chengalput second son of Zamindar Mr Rangachari passed away in 1983 in Chennai) Due to his previous experience in Dinesh Mills Jamnagar he joined this company in Thane as a spinning master.His Juniors were one Mr Iyer and Mr B K Kedia. The plant at Thane was a medium size one and were manufacturing woolen items like blankets etc. It's wools (basic and important raw materials sheep's wool were procured from Kanpur for long years.After couple of years the products of Raymond wollen started going down in qualiCite error: There are <ref> tags on this page without content in them (see the help page).ty and was being rejected in the market throughout India. The then Chairman Mr Gopal Krishnan Singhania took the decision to shut down this plant at Thane (with a labor force of substantial level settled in and around the plant.Mr S.Srinivasan Spinning Master took the guts to approach the Chairman and requested him not to shutdown but instead study the cause and modernness the plant by first setting right the defects and opening a new plant the process known as combing . The Chairman agreed to Mr. S.Srinivasan's request and suggest and also granted him permission to find out the cause of defects found in the basic raw material and also was ready to sanction around 5 Crores (in those times a huge amount). Mr. S.Srinivasan took up the challange and first found out the cause (the stock of sheep in Kanpur were suffering from some type of diesies which was the main cause.)This was reported and rectified by replacing the entire stock of sheep with new ones.Thus the initial cause solved. Second was to modern anise the plant by introducing hew method of cleaning the sheep wool in huge boilers imported along with other machinery need in the new division known as combing division. Thus after commissioning of the new boilers and machinery production commenced and a class quality of wool and other raw materials required for making the final products gave good quality which won back the faith and goodwill of Raymond and gave new life. This was a team work of Mr S Srinivasan and his team members. The Chairman Mr Gopal Krishnan congratualed Mr S Srinivasan and his team and he was promoted as General Manager of Combing Division of Raymond Woolen Mills. Thus to say Raymond Woolen Mills Ltd got a new lease of life and is continuing to enjoy even today its name for producing best quality of wool and other products giving fullest satisfaction to it's millions of customers. This story concludes depicting the main man behind it's new life.
