History[edit]

Sai Kaew Beach, originally named Noi Beach, is located within the area of the Royal Thai Naval Academy, Naval Education Department, near Ao Noi, in the Bang Sare sub-district of Sattahip district, Chonburi province in Thailand. The area of Sai Kaew Beach has approximately 116 Rai or about 185,600 square meters (1 Rai = 1,600 square meters). In November 2002, Admiral Taweesak Somapha, the Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Navy at that time, recognized the potential for developing this area to encourage government tourism and improve the quality of life for military personnel in the navy. Suddenly, he instructed the Chumphon Navy School under the Directorate of Education to survey and improve this area to be a relaxation space for naval military personnel and the general public. Sai Kaew Beach focuses on the development of tourism with the awareness of conserving the environment and natural resources. He wanted tourism to truly experience and relax in the natural environment. The beach needs to be preserved to be in its most pristine condition as much as possible. With the support of a community fund, which is one of the projects initiated by the government, sufficient accommodations are now available at the beach to meet the increasing demands of tourists.[2]

Sai Kaew Beach

Geography[edit]

Sai Kaew Beach, situated in Sattahip, Chonburi, is an ecotourism destination welcoming tourists. This small beach spans approximately 1,700 meters. Comprising coral sand, the beach features fine, white sands reminiscent of the Andaman coast. The topography of the beach is flat, with a sandy sea floor interspersed with stones. The water is shallow, exceptionally clear, and clean, making it an ideal location for various water activities such as snorkeling, jet skiing, and sea kayaking.[4]

Surrounded by abundant mountains adorned with diverse plant life and large trees like tamarind, neem, and coconut, Sai Kaew Beach emanates a serene ambiance. The beach is well-equipped with amenities, including shops, restaurants, Thai massage, and spa facilities. Offering comprehensive facilities like restrooms and rental shops for beach blankets, deck chairs, and life buoys, the beach is organized into zones, presenting a neat and inviting environment that appeals to tourists. Accessible year-round, the optimal time to visit Sai Kaew Beach is typically from the end of September to December, characterized by milder winds and calm waves.[5]

It is located in the Sattahip district in the southern part of Chonburi, near the eastern coastline of the Gulf of Thailand, approximately 86 kilometers to the east of Chonburi. Sai Kaew Beach has fine, white sand, resulting from the accumulation of sand and coral, similar to the coast of the Andaman Sea.The topography of Sattahip involves a complex pattern of mountains and low plains that extend to the sea, with a sloping terrain descending from the east toward the west of the Gulf of Thailand. This geographical setup leads to the occurrence of monsoons, resulting in beautiful, clear water.

Sai Kaew Beach is positioned on the coastal area of Sattahip District, facing west, allowing the southwesterly winds to blow in from the sea and flow out towards the southeast. In each season, the monsoons are different. The southwest monsoon makes most of the beaches in Sattahip clean and clear water because it faces west towards the Gulf of Thailand. Due to these characteristics, Sai Kaew Beach is well-known for its natural beauty and has become an important tourist destination in Sattahip.[6]
