Walid Hakim is an actor [1] father, and veteran that has dedicated the latter half of his adult life as an activist for civil and human rights. He has had the honor of serving on many boards including, but not limited to: Columbia Community Relations Council (Vice Chair), Carolina Peace Resource Center (Vice President), and Gang Task Force (co-chair). He spent 64 days and nights at the S.C. State House as part of the Occupy movement and spent time at Standing Rock N.D. as part of Veterans for Standing Rock. In 2012, he was the Democratic nominee [2] in his unsuccessful bid for a seat in the South Carolina State house. [3]
Hakim, 48, was born and raised in Kuwait with two younger siblings and through his mother, all were born US citizens. His family moved to his mother’s home state of South Carolina where he attended Lexington High School and Newberry College.
In 2017 Walid Hakim joined the Civil Defense Corps as the first Chief of Corps Operations. The Civil Defense Corps investigates hate crimes in its jurisdiction and also provides safety plans and armed agents if needed. Walid Hakim has taken his experiences as; a Marine, a Law Enforcement Officer and a leader to benefit the greater good as the first Commanding General of the Civil Defense Corps. [4]
