Walter Luzzi - Argentinean Broadcaster[edit]

Personal Profile[edit]

Walter Luzzi was born on August 29, 1968 in the city of Balcarce, southern [Buenos Aires Province] in [Argentina]. Started working as a Radio Announcer in 1986 in a small AM rural Radio station from his hometown until 1989, when he moved to the city of [Mar del Plata], 51 km from Balcarce. Soon after he settled there he continued working in the Broadcasting fields starting as part of the Newscast Team of LU9 AM Mar del Plata Radio Station (the "then" number 1 AM Radio in the city). A few months after his first steps in the "Big City", he was chosen to become one of the cast of hosts of the new FM Universe 103.3, which was under the same AM Station umbrella. In 1991 he conquered his own major prime-time radio show hosting "Atardecer '91" (Sunset '91). This music-news show remained for over two years. Other shows followed as the radio formats and demands changed within the speed of the 1990's. In 1997 Walter Luzzi switched to the independent FM 101.1 where he hosted for two years the Spanish version of The World Chart Show. Soon after, the station changed its management team and Walter became the Station Manager's Assistant.

Moving to Canada[edit]

In 2001 he decided it was time for something more exciting than radio. He left Argentina and moved to Canada where he has been there since then. His first radio show in English was aired in 2003, The Argentina, Music News. It billed itself as the one & only radio Tango show in Canada produced and hosted by an Argentinian Broadcaster. The story got a funny and ironic twist as Walter Luzzi started as a radio broadcaster in his native Argentina, playing Canadian music and brought his love of traditional tango music to Canada. The one-hour segment was aired on UMFM, Winnipeg, MB Canada for close to 2 years, with the show coming to a close in the spring of 2005. Each Saturday morning, he played the best in Tango, showing the evolution of one of the most unique sounds in the world from the beginning, with the golden age, until today, with the new generation of the genre.

As he was always accustomed to changes in radio, he decided to reach another goal: to have the same show he used to have in Argentina but entirely in English. He accomplished this in 2004 with Retro Evolution on 92.9 Kick FM in Winnipeg, MB Canada. The summary of the best of the 80's and 90's(Remixed) brought Walter the best memories of his days of radio in Argentina when these classics where part of his Weekly [Top 40 Countdown].

Back in Argentina but still in Canada[edit]

Walter broadcasted his Retro Evolution show from Canada "live" to Argentina where it was aired using his website www.retroevolution.net. This makes him the first Argentinean Broadcaster to host a live show from beyond the country's borders to an Argentinean audience. This broadcast took place with only three seconds of delay from Canada to Argentina.

He still holds his own on-line radio station broadcasting hits from the 80s on www.retroevolution.net
