Born in Bethlehem on the 17th June 1952. Educated in Germiston, matriculated in 1969. Served as operations Intelligence with 21 squadron, South African Air force during 1970 and 1971. Qualified as pilot and flew until 2004. Obtained BSc from Trinity University College, Post Graduate Diploma in Management Studies from Buckinghamshire University College, Later graduated with MBa and PhD from Cambridge International University.

Served as Instructor and later as Course director for NAUI from 1994 till date. During this time received 14 Ambassador Awards from NAUI head office. Also qualified as Instructor trainer with DAN ( Divers Alert Network) and received an award for saving two students on the same day.

Author of two editions of the VAN DEVENTER STAMBOOM EN AGTERGROND, 1989 and 1993. Wrote a number of articles for travel publications.

Currently on a world tour, by sailboat and has been in 36 countries and around 780 cities during this period.
