Questions for the candidate
Dear candidate, thank you for offering to serve Wikipedia in this capacity. Please take the time to answer a few generic questions to provide guidance for voters:
- 1. What sysop chores, if any, would you anticipate helping with? Please check out Category:Wikipedia backlog, and read the page about administrators and the administrators' reading list.
- A: I would see myself using both rollback functions and blocking abilites for vandalism fairly frequently. I often have to use AIV and in the past have had to wait for over 4 hours for any action to come from an admin (showing perhaps the need for a greater number of admins with a focus in that area at certain times). I also see myself becoming involved in speedy deletion pages, and helping with image deletion and tagging concerns as well.
- 2. Of your articles or contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
- A: I'm pleased about my activites as a moderator on VandalProof as I feel I perform a valuable service, and by getting more users on board we can help reduce the amount of damage vandals can cause. I also feel this is the question I need to work on the most as I perhaps need more really good article edits (to be proud of)!
- 3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
- A: Yes, but I have only been involved in the role of a mediator. I have mediated cases on behlaf of both the Mediation Committee and the Mediation Cabal. As for personal edit conflicts I had a disagreement over the pluralisation of 'Lord Chancellor' with Lord Emsworth, but it was hardly an edit conflict. I've had my MP write to the Lord Chancellor's Office to resolve the matter, and I feel that this is one of the key things that we could do more on Wikipedia, actually contact people who we write about. For example, I contact Bill Frindall to get permission to use a photograph he had of himself and he was able to point out a number of factual errors on Bill Frindall.
