Roberta Ramponi[1]is an Italian researcher with the Institute of Photonics and Nanotechnology of the National Research Council (IFN -CNR). [2]

Early life[edit]

Roberta Ramponi graduated in Physics cum laude in 1977 and received the Specialization Diploma in Medical Physics cum laude in 1979 at the University of Milan, Italy.

Career[edit]

Currently, Ramponi is the Director of Photonics and Nano technology of the National Research Council . Previous to National Research Council,she was the chair of BoS of degrees in Physics Engineering. She was also a full Professor in Physicsat the “Politecnico di Milano”, School of System Engineering. [3]From 1992 until 2002 she was Associate Professor of Physics at the “Politecnico di Milano” (Milan, Italy), School of Engineering.

Research[edit]

Her research has covered a wide range of activities in the fields of Quantum Electronics, Optoelectronics, Quantum Optics and Photonics. Early years of her research, she worked on the development of laser-based instrumentation for biomedicine, mainly for diagnostic applications; later on, her research activity has focused on Nonlinear Optics, Integrated Optics, and related applications. She also developed innovative techniques for the fabrication of waveguides in nonlinear crystals, passive and active glasses and for the accurate characterization of such waveguides; moreover she has studied the design and realization of all-optical devices for applications to sensors and optical communications. Recently she has been involved in the design and realization of integrated micro-optofluidic devices, by means of direct writing with femtosecond laser pulses for the fabrication of optical waveguides, and of the same technique followed by chemical etching for microchannels. At present she is also involved in the design and realization by femtosecond direct writing of integrated optical chips for quantum information.
