William Paul Rish (born October 11, 1979) is an American small business owner who is running for the US House of Representatives in Georgia's 8th congressional district. He is the President and CEO of Rish Telecommunications, a small voice and data network business. He was Chairman of the Bibb County Republican Party from 2008 to 2009.
Background
[edit]Rish is a native of Macon, Georgia. He graduated from Central High School in 1998. He attended Georgia College & State University until 2000 when he transferred to the DeVry University. He majored in Telecommunications Management and graduated in 2003. He started Rish Telecommunications in October of 2003.[1] He attends Ingleside Baptist Church. [2]
Rish has a long history in politics as a volunteer. He volunteered in Saxby Chambliss's reelection campaign for the US House in 1997. In 2006, he volunteered in Mac Collins's campaign for the US House. He volunteered in 2008 for Rick Goddard's campaign for the US House. [3]
He was elected Chairman of the Bibb County Republican Party in 2008 and won Reelection in 2009.[4] He resigned in September of 2009 to run for the US House.[5]
2010 Campaign
[edit]On October 5, 2009, Paul Rish announced his candidacy to run in Georgia's 8th Congressional District. He will be running against democratic incumbent Jim Marshall. Marshall is a former mayor of Macon, Ga. He has been a congressman since 2003.[6]
Positions
[edit]Rish is quoted as saying, "This campaign will be focused on creating jobs, lowering taxes, reforming healthcare, and securing our agricultural prosperity."[7] Macon.com reported that, "Rish also said he’ll run on a tax cut “across the board for everybody” with an equivalent cut in federal spending and a balanced budget. He added that if he’s elected, he will turn down taxpayer-funded retirement and health benefits offered to members of Congress."[8]
