Silver Story are an English rock band from St.Helens, Merseyside. Formed in 2007, the group established themselves in 2014 with the release of their debut album, Cold Street Lights, which included the singles "Bleed", "My Empire" and "I'm Not a Hero".The album was released independently on September the 18th 2014 before being re-released by R-Rise Music.

History[edit]

Silver Story formed in October 2007 when Alex McCabe and former guitarist Brian Sambrooks were allocated into the same dorm at Liverpool Hope University. Sharing similar influences and aspirations the two formed what would eventually become Silver Story. Starting out playing open mic nights and University events the pair admitted to being terrible as the band attempted to find it's feet. Eventually life long friend (of McCabe's) Gaz Haigh joined the band on drums on a permanent basis, followed by Ben Taylor's permanent appointment on Bass. Liam Taylor offered to manage the band and booked a string of gigs across the north-west and parts of Yorkshire during early 2008.

In the early days the band played uplifting but sometimes soft sounding material and were often criticized for their lack of live presence. Their songs were often described as catchy and radio-friendly pop/rock tunes for all ages, a tag which drummer Gaz Haigh particularly disliked.

However, as a young band the members were just happy to be performing and eager to improve, aspiring Producer Alex Parr offered to record a demo album for the band for a cut price. Are we there yet? was completed in April 2008 and contained rough demo versions of fan favourites Frantic, My Empire and The End along with seven other tracks. At the time McCabe voiced that he felt like the band was ripping off fans charging £5 per copy as the recordings were so poor, consequently after a successful under 18s show at The Citadel in St.Helens the band threw all fifty remaining copies of the album into the crowd along with T-Shirts and other merchandise.

Unhappy with their previous recordings the band decided to record a well produced Demo EP, on halloween 2008 the four travelled to London to record with producers The Animal Farm and the result was their debut release soulmate:ELIMINATE. Again McCabe and Sam Brooks were originally unhappy with the recordings, this coupled with a misunderstanding with iTunes and the Label's distributor meant that the EP release was delayed seven months until may 2009. Silver Story's debut single Frantic was released on the 25th may 2009 and failed to reach the top 200 in the UK charts. The band originally blamed this failure on poor promotion and management and considered suing promotion company Presswerk for failing to gain enough reviews and airplay. Drummer Gaz Haigh however admits that for the band to expect major success on a low budget Indie Label was over optimistic.

After finishing University the four members began to follow other careers which coincided with Ben Taylor leaving the band. This was followed by Sam Brooks quitting in early December after a disappointing show and a heated argument with Gaz Haigh on stage at Fluid Live Lounge (Haigh consequently stormed off stage only to be followed by his soon to be formed band member and refused to return to the stage for fifteen minutes as Sam Brooks continued to rage.) Sam Brooks had previously moved back to his hometown of Sheffield and could no longer commit to the band, he left a the band the following afternoon after explaining he could no longer continue to travel 40 miles to practice twice a week.

Faced with a difficult decision remaining members McCabe and Haigh decided to replace the ex-members and carry on with their vision. After trying out two different guitarists a statement on the band's myspace site confirmed that Silver Story had offered Pee Murphy and Chris Reid permanent roles on bass and lead guitar respectively. After reforming in 2010 Silver Story have announced on their myspace that they will be recording a new five track EP in early 2011 and will be playing shows through-out the UK. Having only played a handful of live shows with the new line-up the band have already developed a notorious reputation.
