Bio
[edit]I am a community college student. I am doing the pre-requirement to go to nursing school. My passion is to help others, does who are needs. One of my dreams is to become a nurse and be able to travel around the world to help, especially the places where people need healthcare so severely.
I sign up into Wikipedia because it is a requirement for my English class. I did not know that Wikipedia has so much helpful information. But now that I am surfing more it seems exciting to be able to help with my knowledge. I am bilingual; it will be pleasant to translate some pages to help others understand. I enjoy reading about healthcare topics.
Article Critique
[edit]I visited the phlebotomy[1] page on Wikipedia and found three aspects of it worth commenting on its lack of citations, its lack of structure and completeness on the history and its lack of information on world fundamentals. Phlebotomy is a way to collect a blood sample to test for condition and diseases.
Citations
[edit]There are not many citations on the page. References[2] are listed on the bottom of the page, but there are only five. Although one of the references pages was not found, it displays an error message. This article needs more improvement on the citations and reliable sources. References are not really up to date it seems that most of the information was from 2014, but there is a recent update made in January 2018.
Structure and Completeness
[edit]The facts of the history of phlebotomy it is not sufficient, it needs more specific information; for example, who and how long it been practicing? I study phlebotomy; I know it started around 3500 years ago. The word Phlebotomy comes from Greek: phleb/o means "vein" and -tomy means "to make an incision." Ancient provider though that veins and arteries carry out air but Galen, a student of the ancient Greek physician Hippocrates, is the one who discovered that carry out blood. The Egyptians, Mayans, and Mesopotamians practiced bloodletting for sacrificial and ritualistic purposes along with medical use. I believe that Benjamen Rush was the one who spread the bloodletting to the United States.
World Fundamental
[edit]I have noticed that it only mentions three countries with some necessary information about the education required to become a phlebotomist. I suggest adding more determinate details on phlebotomy around the world. Also, it needs a job employment outlook section.
Conclusion
[edit]Overall, I had rated this page as “okay.” The page needs more information on how much a phlebotomist make, and the history needs more description on how it was spread to other countries? Now, phlebotomy has been an essential part of medicine; it helps doctors to discover conditions and diseases.
