Production
[edit]NONAMES is the directorial debut of Kathy Lindboe, who grew up in the Wisconsin Rapids area. It was inspired by the experiences of Lindboe's brother and his group of friends. She said, "If you’re not making good decisions and are stuck in a rut, it’s just important to figure out how to get out of it. You can have a better life... In my brother’s case, he was trying really hard, but it was too late, you know?"[1]
The film was shot in 35 anamorphic on location in Central Wisconsin.[2] Images in the film are meant to invoke appreciation for Wisconsin's natural beauty. "I never wanted to offend people that do stay, and that do love a place. There’s that fine line of being so proud of where we come from — which we all should be — and then also recognizing when a certain place, no matter what, isn’t working for you," Lindboe said.[1]
Reception
[edit]The film earned praise at the Bermuda International Film Festival.[1]
At the 2010 Phoenix Film Festival, NONAMES won Copper Wing Awards for Best Director (Lindboe) and Best Ensemble Acting (Corbin, Dale, Jacobs). Gillian Jacobs won a Special Jury Award for Acting Achievement. The film also received nominations for Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Director at the 2010 Method Fest Independent Film Festival.
