Youlyst is a social marketplace developed in Australia by Scottish-born Quamy Dean.

This site is a social media platform that allows users to find the things they want faster, easier and for free through people they know and trust. The core business provides free access to job, car and real estate classifieds and also allows users to post free ads to sell the things they no longer need. The difference with Youlyst is that when users join the site, they create a network of friends, colleagues, and trusted businesses. Through the system’s endorsement and referral feature, businesses and people become part of each other’s network, and when each party invites their own contacts to join, everyone’s network of trusted sources expands.

The concept took root in 2005 when founder Quamy Dean was visiting his ailing 96-year-old mum in Scotland. His mother’s frail condition meant opening heavy doors was no longer possible so Quamy set about finding a reliable company that could install automatic doors to make his mum’s life easier and safer. After trawling dozens of websites, and making the equivalent number of phone calls, he finally found a company that could do the job.

A subsequent conversation with his uncle who, it turns out, knew someone who could have done the job faster and for less money, sealed the deal. Quamy realised there was a gaping hole in the online and social media space when it comes to finding businesses quickly and through trusted sources. If he’d just been able to ask a network of people he knew, he could have saved himself time, money and stress.

Returning home to Australia, he set about partnering with his friend and web developer, Radovan Petrik, to help develop the site that would, in Quamy’s vision, stop the entire world from being ripped off. Soon the idea expanded to allow recruitment companies, real estate agents and car dealers to post listings for free to their Youlyst network and to allow businesses to promote themselves directly with their contacts in their Youlyst network.

The theory behind the site is that Facebook is for catching up with family and friends, LinkedIn is a professional directory and Twitter is for news and celebrities. Youlyst takes care of business' needs and consumers needs around business.
