Project Proposal

---

1. Objective I propose to create a YouTube or FlickR photo essay that displays the effects of media on young women in America. I want to also show how the media's ideal standard of beauty about how women are supposed to look and what is actually classified as beauty and how it can cause mental physical disorders and how it effects the mind.
2. Interest This topic is interesting because of the significance media has in everyone lives. More so the phenomenon in controlling how we feel, think, and perceive ourselves. As a female I am interested in researching and informing how the media has an effect on myself and other young women in America. In result this causes self-esteem issues within young women which can trigger to certain actions, attitude, and physical and mental disorders. Sociological concepts in this project will involve self perception, Looking glass self, and basically information from chapter 2.
3. Background reading I will read wikipedia, text book and other basic sociology texts on the following topics
   1. I will also find research and statistics about young women and society and media related causes for their disorders
   2. I will find discussions about this topic through blog sites, magazines, national polls, forums, and possible personal interviews of women on campus
   3. I plan on using many topics from the Tyra Banks Show which involves several past discussions about self esteem in young women and how the industry shapes their minds into believing they are not good enough and do not possess beauty.
   4. Google, Wikipedia, Yahoo, and various search engines will also be used in this project
4. General Plan I plan to do some work on the project a little everyday to get the job done. Everyone will have a part to complete and together we will put together a Fabulous presentation with hard work and dedication. Photos that are influencing to the project is saved on my computer and bookmarked along with ideas written on paper.
5. Collaborators I am working with April Joy Alexander and anyone else who is Fabulous and hard working can join us!
