Special vs. Visual effects

Why change the terminology on various pages? From my understanding, special effects are used to describe on-set pyrotechnics, smoke, anything done in-camera. Visual effects describe the type that's used in post-production, most commonly CGI. So why apply terminology to older films that never described what they did as Visual effects, and which none of the sources use? Harryhenry1 (talk) 04:24, 25 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
