August 2021[edit]

Information icon Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! I noticed, in the case of Syrian camel, you tried to add a category to the page that didn't exist (hence the red-coloured link at the bottom of the page, which means that page or category does not exist). Categories are only to direct other users to pages covering similar topics, but that cannot happen if the category you tried to create was empty. Please be aware of this, and only add categories that exist already (for a full list of categories, see Special:Categories). Thanks! Again, please do not add categories that doesn't exist, like you did here Justiyaya 04:31, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Justiyaya: and @Liamyangll:, please be aware that this IP is being used by an IP-hopping vandal who has been vandalizing Wikipedia for years with this behavior of adding inappropriate and or nonexistent categories to pages. Through personal experience, this vandal appears to be incapable of responding to any form of communication beyond restoring reverted vandalisms or hopping to a new IP to resume its unconstructive edits.--Mr Fink (talk) 05:21, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Apokryltaros: That might make sense given that this IP had only one contribution to Wikipedia when I warned them about this issue. To the best of your knowledge, is there any pattern to this vandal's IP address usage that could potentially be addressed by a CheckUser or admin? Or I might just be dreaming too big... Liamyangll (talk to me! | My contribs!) 07:06, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Liamyangll:As far as I know, the vandal either uses a morphing IP or an IP range from 139something to 140something. Once in a great while, I can convince admins to rangeblock if the vandal has been especially active in vandalism and IP-hopping.--Mr Fink (talk) 18:15, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Apokryltaros: thanks for the info :D and @Liamyangll: I don't think this can be addressed by a CheckUser, like if they are hopping from their house to their local library or something it's probably impossible to know where they would be hopping to next (correct me if I'm wrong) Justiyaya 10:15, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Justiyaya: You're probably right, it's me who's mistaken. I was just thinking that if this person was hopping between a certain range of IPs, it may be logical to range block them. If that's not the case, however, and they're just using random IPs, then this method wouldn't work. Sorry for any confusion caused. I need more experience or something...
