Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate your contributions, but in one of your recent edits to Ricardo López (stalker), it appears that you have added original research, which is against Wikipedia's policies. Original research refers to material—such as facts, allegations, ideas, and personal experiences—for which no reliable, published sources exist; it also encompasses combining published sources in a way to imply something that none of them explicitly say. Please be prepared to cite a reliable source for all of your contributions. You can have a look at the tutorial on citing sources.

All of the reliable sources I can find specify it was the relationship with Goldie which drove him over the edge. If you can find a source which indicates otherwise, please provide.   –Skywatcher68 (talk) 00:03, 27 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Skywatcher68, sorry taking this long to reply. Only today I stumbled upon this message here, in my IP's talk page. Thanks for your insight.
I did edit for Wikipedia daily, years ago, so being familiar with the rules and WP:SYNTH I figured my edit wouldn't quite last. Unfortunately, aside from Ricardo's own video diary, I have none other source specifically commenting on the 8-month period my edit did address.
I got really curious about Ricardo's case, and in the course of some months I got to really watch his diary. The timeline, so I can just showcase my point and reason of editing, is:
June, July or August (Lopez can't recall exactly which) 1993 - He sees "Björk" written at the end of her MTV clip in his brother's house, but barely got to pay attention while the clip was on, thinking it was Sinnead O'Connor
November 1993, specifically 21st (which Ricardo found much later was her birthday) - Ricardo sees an interview she did. He starts relating to her gestual and behavioral ''quirks'' — many he possess since a kid, he notes — and starts developing real interest in her, both as an artist and as a person.
December 10th, 1993 - While at Jorge's house with his friend Ralph, they watched a Björk clip on MTV. Jorge notes how he likes her songs, and Ricardo starts talking, lowkey, about his fascination with her. If I recall correctly, this is the same day he goes to a nearby record store with his dad, since he didn't drive at the time, which is another point to be made: he did drive before his suicide.
December 13th, 1993 - Listening to her songs and having been fascinated by her for a while, Ricardo develops an infatuation. He notices how euphoric he feels falling in love with Björk.
Which brings us to his diary entry in which he addresses finding out about her boyfriend at the time:
August 13th, 1994 - Precisely 8 months after first developing romantic feelings for Björk, he discovers she already have a boyfriend. He cites the period as learning process, calling it ''the 8-month lesson''. Her boyfriend at the time was indeed Stephane Sednaoui, and later, in his 1996 video diary, Ricardo comments on Björk's sexual experience, mentioning she's had a "French lover".
In the video diary, early in the first tape, by January 14th 1996, he mentions Tricky and their relationship. He only finds out about Goldie much later, in July. Knowing about Stephane, and his prejudice against Tricky and then Goldie — which just confirms she developed a "preference" for black men in his twisted perception — is the chain of events that, over time, developed his intense urge to set up his plan.
Most sources on the topic lack properly addressing the timeline of events, since what actually stands out the most is his outrageous plan to murder the singer. He did go intensely disturbed and decided to go on with the plan over Goldie, though.
I know writing this much text serves no purpose over this context. There are no sources I could use to back up my edition — none that I'm aware of. But still, I thought it would be great to write down the line of events in Lopez's obsession somewhere, and the opportunity seemed to present itself. It's quite an interesting case and study on the effects of parasocial relationships. 179.209.47.236 (talk) 01:51, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
