In Alain Resnais's movie "My Uncle of America", at some point the actors wear rat heads. Resnais wants to talk about human behavior, with the collaboration of Dr Henri Laborit. To illustrate his point, he presents experiments on rats kept in cage. To show the transposition of observations to humans, Resnais films rats in a dollhouse, the size of which matches the size of the rats, as if they were humans; then actors play carrying heads of rats; and the actors also play with their "normal" appearance, with their usual head. The purpose of rat's heads worn by actors for Resnais, or heads of rabbits for Lynch, are very different, and there is no connection to be made. To talk about Resnais’s rats’s heads when talking about “Rabbits” by David Lynch is not relevant, as they address totally different issues. And having actors wearing heads of animals in movies and plays was done many times before. So: why mention Resnais as a "precursor"?
