Information icon Hello, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I noticed that you recently added commentary to an article, Royal National Lifeboat Institution. While Wikipedia welcomes editors' opinions on an article and how it could be changed, these comments belong on the article's accompanying talk page. If you post your comments there, other editors working on the same article will notice and may respond to them, and your comments will not disrupt the flow of the article. However, keep in mind that even on the talk page of an article, you should limit your discussion to improving the article. Article talk pages are not the place to discuss opinions of the subject of articles, nor are such pages a forum. Thank you. Wikipedialuva (talk) 09:15, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Updates to RNLI page

[edit]

Following your request for conversation and messages regarding your posts on the RNLI page, I have some points I would like to raise.

1. Nobody will delete your post, IF it has relevance, AND can be substantiated with a reference source.

2. I would point out that the majority of folks deleting your posts are impartial to the subject. Check their (wide ranging) contributions on many subjects. You are being deleted because of your lack of verification, NOT because they have a disagreement with what you are trying to say.

3. However, what you appear to be trying to say, is your own opinion, and it would seem that you cannot back this up with a verifiable source, which is essential. Wikipedia is about Fact, not Opinion.

  • "The RNLI is after all funded by the legacies of wealthy boat owners so their relatives can have an emergency service at sea". - Personal Opinion - No so, the RNLI has been funded for many years by legacies, but this cannot be attributed to wealthy boat owners, many legacies and gifts are - to use an old term - philanthropic, and the person is just giving back from their success, whatever field of business that may be.
  • "The people who volunteer for the RNLI get direct benefit by working in the marinas and maintaining the assets of the wealthy boat owners". - Personal Opinion - Not so. you will find the RNLI crew now come from an incredibly diverse range of people, in all kinds of jobs and industries. Office workers, Policemen, Paramedics, Joiners, Builders, Ice-cream sellers. Gardeners, Absolutely any job whatsoever.
  • Your previous statement regarding trafficking by the RNLI shows a complete lack of understanding as to how things operate. The RNLI ONLY respond to a launch request from the Coastguard. They are not patrolling the coast, looking for migrants. If sent out, they do not know straightaway as to whom they need to rescue. On finding anyone in distress, they will be saved. They do not ask for passports. They do not discriminate. They don't leave anyone behind. If they retrieve migrants, then they are all handed over to Border Force on arrival, they are not just allowed to run up the beach and disappear. So if you have a grievance regarding migrants, and their handling, then it is the responsibility of Border Force and the Government. Not really fair to be blaming the RNLI Volunteers, who are just doing what they are asked.
