August 2019: National varieties of English
[edit]Hello, IP editor. I assume we are in agreement that Japan has never been part of the British Empire. The Wikipedia Manual of Style only requires a specific version of the English language for subjects which are closely tied to one language version. Thus, American Civil War is written in American English, and Vancouver, British Columbia is written in Canadian English. Outside of this sort of case, the language version in which the article was started prevails.
In Japan, British English does not prevail over American English, and Japanese prevails over both versions of English. Should "English Wikipedia" articles about Japanese subjects be required to be in Japanese? Sorry to say I cannot follow your logic.--Quisqualis (talk) 02:20, 15 August 2019 (UTC)
- English is English. That used in the US is a niche variant.
- I don't take issue with your opinion. However, your behavior is in contravention of the Wikipedia Manual of Style as well as Wikipedia behavioral standards. If you would like to discuss this on the article's Talk page, please start a discussion there.--Quisqualis (talk) 02:29, 15 August 2019 (UTC)
