Hi!

[edit]

Hi! I noticed you're been doing a lot of very interesting work on the Rule of Rose article, and I was wondering if you were aware of the manual of style for video games? It's a little hard to find and lengthy, but there's a section on plot in video games that might be useful to you (I just find manuals of style helpful in general). Generally, plot summaries are supposed to stay around 700 words, which can definitely be very tricky for a complex and ambiguous game like RoR. I'm here if you'd like some help with the plot, and if not, that's ok too! Grace Clara (talk) 19:58, 23 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I have! RoR is one of my favorite games, but since it's almost abandonware no one else is really interested in maintaining the article. No, I wasn't aware there was a style manual for video games, thanks for the link! Unfortunately I do think RoR's very convuluted plot is already about as compressed as I can make it while still making it understandable through a Wikipedia summary. I had the feeling that someone watching a Let's Play would want to come to Wikipedia to understand what just happened since the game is so darn vague, so I wanted to be thorough. If you think you can help compress it, I'm all ears! 47.183.217.149 (talk) 03:34, 24 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That's very cool (and nice to meet you)! RoR is one of my favorite games too! It's so good and spooky, and I really love Jennifer so much! Let me do some thinking and see if I can't come up with an outline for compressing the plot. Off the top of my head, do we have a source for the specific location in England? I think, for the wiki, we're very much limited to what is explicit in the text or developer comments. Grace Clara (talk) 15:35, 24 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Also! While I'm thinking, what would you describe as the main plot points of RoR? I'm thinking right now. If I had to boil the story down to its essence, I think I would describe: Situating the game as Jennifer's reliving of her childhood memories (there's a developer comment to that effect that we can use there), the game's ambigiuous opening, an introduction to the Aristocrat Club and its hierachies, a brief overview of the abuse that Jennifer endures, Brown, Wendy, the Gingerbread House sequence, Wendy as the Princess of the Red Rose and Brown's death, the return of Gregory/Stray Dog, and the epilogue. Do you agree? What would you add/take out? Grace Clara (talk) 15:50, 24 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!

Thanks for compressing the plot in RoR, it will be easier for most casual readers to want to read it. (I played it too) By the way, you should create a Wikipedia account, it's easier for communicating between editors. Danial Bass (talk) 15:29, 30 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
