Information.svg Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You could also click on the signature button Insert-signature.png located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you. --SineBot (talk) 19:52, 6 May 2011 (UTC)

Not sure what to do. I just read that I should post this on my page to get help. I am having issues with a specific editor who is being very rude to me. I am a new contributor and could use some general assistance but for now I would like to see what can be done about this editor's unwelcoming behaviour. (talk) 21:20, 9 May 2011 (UTC)

Ask the user to stop being rude. If the user continues after, who is it? ~~EBE123~~ talkContribs 22:01, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
I did ask the user just this and he shouted at me to go away. I don't know the name, but the editor's handle is OrangeMarlin.
Warned him for violating WP:BITE (IP too), WP:CIVIL official wikipedia policies. ~~EBE123~~ talkContribs 22:22, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
Separate question: How do I get a handle? Thanks for your response67.127.100.144 (talk) 22:08, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
I believe WP:WHY has the answer to your second question. Prodego talk 22:10, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
You may make an account here. ~~EBE123~~ talkContribs 22:22, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
Thank you both. :-) I've read the WHY page and am now weighing whether or not I want to continue contributing at Wikipedia if it means I that I will continue to get insulted just for trying do some volunteer work. Both of your prompt replies to my "cry for help" (lol) are definitely encouraging, so thanks again! (talk) 22:28, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
Finaly, if he continues, I could start an WP:WQA on your behalf. ~~EBE123~~ talkContribs 22:39, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
Getting oversight help. Oversight will just delete the rude comments. Do you want that? ~~EBE123~~ talkContribs 22:45, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
I don't care much if they are deleted. This isn't a matter of reputation or pride as I am just an IP at this point, right? I guess I just want this editor to treat me better. I will try to stay clear of him so hopefully it won't come to something elevated like this WQA you mentioned. I don't want to get anyone in trouble or anything. In fact, this is the exact opposite reason I started editing. I was trying not to fan the flames of the personal battles going on at the acupuncture entry and deliberately trying to keep editors focused on improving the content of the lede. Chalk it up to noobie naiveté. Sincerely, (talk) 23:06, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
After some thought, I've decided that I will be creating a username proper. However, I will wait to do so as to not make it obvious to OrangeMarlin who I am. I fear prejudice and reprisals from him. I am astounded by his response to both of your warnings to him. I am sorry that he lashed out at both of you who were doing nothing more than helping a newcomer. And that he is continuing to call me a pro acupuncture POV pusher is absolutely ludicrous! It's no wonder nothing can get done at article entries such as Acupuncture while rudeness like this abounds. Please read all of my comments and edits. I haven't made very many. I have not done anything to push any pro-acupuncture agenda. I take his unwarranted name-calling as personal attack on my character and I would now love to take you up on starting this WQA on my behalf. This guy has made me feel very unwelcome and there should be consequences for his uncivilised behaviour. Thank you. (talk) 06:10, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
Oh, I forgot, maybe you should try Wikipedia:Disruptive_editing#Dealing_with_disruptive_editors and/or Wikipedia:Dispute_resolution. I dis start a Wqa here. Do not say your new username ~~EBE123~~ talkContribs 18:28, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
Thank you, Ebe. I saw the first response to your filing. I don't think it is clear that I didn't take any sides at Acupuncture as this first responder is assuming. I am neither for nor against acupuncture. OrangeMarlin has made that unfair and untrue assumption and has perpetuated it, but if anyone reads my discussion and proposals, they will see that I am not taking sides at all. The only cause I took up was to slim-down and better organize the lede. Currently I am doing just that, working well with a few editors. OrangeMarlin was completely wrong in his pejorative assessment of what I stand for and frankly the truth of what I stand for is of little consequence to the edits I have suggested. Can I go to the WQA and clarify this?
Thank you again for your advice about my username. I am keeping it private for the time being and will surely steer clear of OrangeMarlin. (talk) 19:27, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
Its that wikipedia said to never say your IP for confidentiality. Onlycheckusers can see it. ~~EBE123~~ talkContribs 20:45, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
