August 2014[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm CutOffTies. I noticed that you made a change to an article, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, 70.160.253.84. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Be cautious about deletion discussions. Everyone is welcome to provide information about independent sources in deletion discussions, but avoid advocating for deletion of articles about your competitors.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. CutOffTies (talk) 00:53, 14 August 2014 (UTC)

Hello, I'm Jim1138. I noticed that you made a change to an article, Joe Weatherly, but you didn't provide a source. I’ve removed it for now, but if you’d like to include a citation to a reliable source and re-add it, please do so! If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Jim1138 (talk) 06:48, 18 August 2014 (UTC)

Citing Sources[edit]

You seem new to Wikipedia so I would like to underscore the notes that you have received on your Talk page about citing reliable sources. Induction into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame is notable and worthy of inclusion in the recipient's Wikipedia biography. However, please be sure to add a source so that this can be verified as correct. In most cases finding a source that verifies this fact takes seconds on Google. If you aren't sure how to add a referenence, please see WP:CITATION or post a message on my Talk page. If there is no citation, other editors can choose to remove the fact per Wikipedia guidelines. It is also faster for you to include a reference when you add the item than for another editor to add it later. Thanks. Rikster2 (talk) 20:09, 18 August 2014 (UTC)

Hi, I put the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame part back in the Sonny Randle article with a reference. The website I referenced seems to have all the inductees so you can look on there for references if you want to add it to any other articles as well. If you need any help with it let me know.
