Hopefully I'm using the right tool to talk to you! Melancholie der Engel's philosophical content is heavily based on Nietzsche's thoughts on nihilism in Thus Spoke Zarathustra. He explains that the Superhuman can express himself freely and unleash his primordial and most perverse instincts, once he realizes that life is meaningless and everything, including mankind itself, is irrelevant and transient. One of the most obvious quotes supporting this line of reasoning is the last one in the film: "whether this person is alive or dead, nothing changes in the universe and nothing gets lost".
