Disputed height of Leonid Stadnyk of Ukraine[edit]

Guinness World Records rejected the claim by Leonid Stadnyk that he was 8 ft 5 in (257 cm) because of the emergence of a number of photographs in which Stadnyk is seen standing next to Ukraine's then President Viktor Yushchenko[1] Knowing, as we do, that Yushchenko was c.6 ft tall (after the news piece in which George W Bush claimed to be 6 ft but came up short to the Ukrainian president), this would make Stadnyk closer to 7 ft 2 in (281.4 cm), using my basic Photoshop skills and some cross multiplying.

Additionally, he refused to allow Guinness World Records to visit him or send an adjudicator or doctor to make the necessary measurements to prove his claims. A well-established endocrinologist who was quoted confirming the height later admitted that he'd not actually carried out any measurements but merely supported the stated height of 8 ft 5 in from his visual assessment (the original photographs released to the media showed Stadnyk in a living room with his mother, and he did look enormously tall in comparison to his mother (and the ceiling) but there was no suggestion of how tall she was). For these reasons, I would expect to see Stadnyk listed on the List_of_tallest_people page to be moved to the list of Disputed and unverified claims.
