Hi: Newbie Learning[edit]

Please bear with me- I am new to this, so it is going to take some time before I know the ropes. I would really appreciate it if you could leave any advice for me on my talk page, so that by the time it's ready to be public it is acceptable.

Best wishes, --Mark Osan (talk) 07:28, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

Hi there.
I could write a lot of advice, but it all depends on one thing - are you personally connected to "global citizenship education"? If you are, then you shouldn't write an article about it; write about something else instead. See WP:COI.
For general advice on the basics of Wikipedia - the need for neutral language, reliable sources, and so on - see WP:FIRST. (talk) 07:31, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

Hi again,
I teach English in a university and I'm interested in improving education-related subjects on Wikipedia- I am not selling anything, and don't stand to profit from writing an article on global citizenship education.I find the topic interesting and don't believe there is any conflict of interests in my writing it. Do you think that the fact that I'm a teacher disqualifies me from writing an article on educational subjects?
All the best,
--Mark Osan (talk) 08:12, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

Hi. In that case no, not at all; it's fine. I thought that it was promoting a specific programme or some kind of corporate entity, when I looked at the earlier version. I see that you've already worked on improving it with some referencing.

I suggest you try to start the proposed article with a section saying what it is, rather than what its purpose is. "Global citizenship education is a ..." what? an educational system, a technique, a theory? Imagine you are trying to explain it to some average person on the street, who has no particular knowledge of the field. For the very first paragraph, try to establish what the subject of the article is. See Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Lead section.

Stick to referenced facts, and avoid any opinion or discussion. With apologies for lots of links, please see WP:NOR, WP:WEASEL, WP:NOTESSAY.

Good luck with it. (talk) 08:31, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you- ok, I see your point. I will get that sorted out as soon as possible.

Speedy deletion declined: User talk:[edit]

Hello, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of User talk:, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: User Talk pages are usually created by someone other than the "owner". You may wish to review the Criteria for Speedy Deletion before tagging further pages. Thank you. the panda ₯’ 08:39, 21 August 2014 (UTC)
