Categorising redirect[edit]

Whoever's running this bot ought to make themself aware of the guideline Wikipedia:Categorizing redirects. Most redirects don't get put in categories. --Rushmore cadet (talk) 12:15, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

I don't think this is an authorized bot either, since it edits with an IP.--Mars2035 (talk) 17:29, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
This is the toolserver's IP, the bots main account was blocked so it is now editing logged out. --Chris 03:56, 28 June 2008 (UTC)

Are you a bot? Simply south not SS, sorry 17:31, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

I appreciate the recognition, but please stop putting DYK notices on my talk page - I've gotten 3 for the same article in the last few minutes. If you are running a bot, I strongly suggest that you stop...bots should be run with a registered bot account only. Karanacs (talk) 21:33, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

I've blocked this IP address for one hour. Someone is running a DYK notification bot that is leaving messages every 5 minutes on user talk pages. If that is disabled within the hour, the block should be lifted. Karanacs (talk) 21:52, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

It's the bot editing logged out. -- Mentifisto 01:46, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
Is that normal? It makes it a bit confusing when using WP:HG = I don't expect such edits to be coming from an IP address.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 01:51, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
Yes, sometimes it does (possibly because the cookie expired, and since it's a bot it wouldn't realize it did and relogin). The safe method for that would be to check whether the removed IP is really blocked (and the editing IP isn't removing its own report). -- Mentifisto 12:52, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
The two I spot checked are indeed blocked, so its AIVbot. Syrthiss (talk) 19:10, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, I was curious when I saw it doing bot work and using the bot's edit summary. Interesting. Enigmamsg 21:01, 6 November 2009 (UTC)
The bot is one of the HBC AIV helperbots. I have no way to know which one it is. I think it is not a terrible thing if it edits while logged out, not ideal but it is still being helpful and causing no harm. Even though I don't know which one it is(we have something like 5 copies running) they all run off the same source code. I will look through that code to see how it handles staying logged in. Chillum 01:47, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
According to the current source code it does not detect if it has logged out or not, but it does log in regardless of if it is needed every hour. So if it does get logged out somehow it will last less than 1 hour. In other words if you ignore the problem it will go away. Chillum 01:49, 10 November 2009 (UTC)

<-- Bot logged out again.  7  01:22, 20 November 2009 (UTC)

If anyone monitors this page, one of the AIV helperbots is editing whilst logged out here. Redvers 15:43, 25 November 2009 (UTC)
and again [1]. Redvers 10:50, 8 December 2009 (UTC)
bot is still IP-editing Choyoołʼįįhí:Seb az86556 09:41, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

There is something funky about this bot, it should not be logging out that often. I wonder if the account information is set wrong. I am not sure how to figure out which of the helperbots is doing this. I suppose it is no big deal, but I would prefer to figure this out. Which of our helperbot operators is using the toolserver? Chillum 15:47, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

December 2009[edit]

The bot is editing logged out again. Ks0stm If you reply here, please leave me a {{Talkback}} message on my talk page. 07:27, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

And again. Tiderolls 00:42, 20 December 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for pointing this out, short of knowing which of the helperbot operators is using the tool server there is not much I can do to prevent it. Any luck in identifying the bot owner? Chillum (Need help? Ask me) 16:25, 20 December 2009 (UTC)

I think this issue has been resolved now, the bot should no longer edit while logged out. Chillum (Need help? Ask me) 20:32, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

March 2010[edit]

The bot is editing logged out again... --NickContact/Contribs 07:40, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

Yes, I noticed. I was about to report it to Alphachimp but it looks like he's been away since the middle of February. Hoepfully someone is watching this page. Soap 15:47, 7 March 2010 (UTC)
And yet again. Excirial (Contact me,Contribs) 14:54, 17 March 2010 (UTC)
I also noticed it. NERDYSCIENCEDUDE (✉ msgchanges) 15:05, 17 March 2010 (UTC)

And yet again today. NERDYSCIENCEDUDE (✉ msgchanges) 13:44, 22 March 2010 (UTC)
Hm, first time this sort of thing has ever happened to one of my bots. Very strange. — The Earwig (talk) 21:07, 22 March 2010 (UTC)

April 2010[edit]

The bot is editing (delivering the Signpost) while logged out. Willking1979 (talk) 01:08, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

Whichever bot is doing this, it needs to be shut down. !! Justa Punk !! 03:54, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
Likely a result from Breaking change to the MediaWiki API login action. — Dispenser 07:25, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

May 2010[edit]

One of the AIV helperbots is editing logged out again. Definitely not 3, but it is most likely 7[2] which is run by Wimt. I have asked about it on their talkpage. —DoRD (talk) 15:04, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

Another editor pointed out that it is probably bot 5 run by JamesR (talk · contribs) and has asked about it on his talkpage. —DoRD (talk) 15:50, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
