While I appreciate your effort to have an accurate article about Bob Shane, I'm afraid you are just flat out wrong on the point of the birth name. Your cited reason actually constitutes what we call WP:OR, meaning in part knowledge derived from personal sources. Even at that, it's hard to believe that anyone close to Shane would miss this basic fact.
I could put my own WP:OR on this. I know Shane - correspond with him regularly, see him a couple of times a year, wrote this article and the Kingston Trio article with his help, and have his cooperation on a book I am currently writing on the Trio. I needed to get his written permission to use copyrighted pictures of the KT for the Wikipedia article, which he generously supplied in less than 2 hours. You'll see notice of such on the picture files. Shane has always been clear that he changed his name (legally, but long after he was famous) to Shane for phonetic purposes.
as well as on his birth certificate (not online) and his Punahou School diploma (also not online but which I've seen hanging on his office wall).
Ironically, one of his and Dave Guard's classmates at Punahou keeps going into the articles trying to change ALL the spellings to Schoen. His siblings and their families never changed the name and still live in Hawaii. Sensei48 (talk) 04:08, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
