‘ASDOLIS’ The Association for the Development of Library and Information Science was established as a professional association in December 2007(Registered Under section 10 of the Tamilnadu Societies Registration Act. 1975, Register No.295/2007) by a dedicated group of librarians to elevate the professional standards in the existing scenario of Library Information Science (LIS) in Tamilnadu and India. It was initiated with the main objectives of promoting improvement in library services and to offer support to Tamilnadu and Indian Librarians in their professional roles. Through its widely established network, ASDOLIS aspires to coordinate with other State, National, International and other organizations with similar objectives thereby developing high standards of librarianship in India. Currently, it has Eight Hundred and sixty two (862) members in its fold.
The objectives of the Association
- To promote library movement and improvement in library services and appropriate library legislation in the state
- To promote library science education and the improvement in the training of librarians in Tamilnadu and India
- To support Tamilnadu and India Librarians in their professional roles
- To promote the continued improvement of existing Tamilnadu state libraries, establishment of libraries, documentation and information centers in Tamilnadu and India
- To co-operate with other State, National, International and other organizations with similar objectives
