Airport Edits
[edit]Hi Abojanow. I have noticed your edits to about ten different airports are wrong. Please check references such as Google Flights and the airline's website before editing. Also, I've noticed most of your edits are related to Detroit Metropolitan Airport. None of the flights have ended in which you edited. Some of the flights are seasonal which means they start and end at different times of the year. Also, Southwest Airline's schedule only runs until April 11, 2016 so there will be no scheduled flights after this date. Relating to Delta, you can clearly see on google flights when mainline routes start/stall or seasonal flights start/stall. [edit]Hi Abojanow, you said that DTW was surpassed by JFK and MSP due to flight additions but DTW is still the 2nd largest hub in terms of daily flights and has been probably as far back as the merger with Northwest. Delta.com shows all hubs large and small, domestic and international for Delta and DTW is still ahead of MSP, but they the gap is closing due to MSP's success. JFK has far less daily flights but more international flights. As of now DTW has 429 daily fights, MSP with 409, and JFK with 194. Hello, I'm not sure if you get notified that I edited this but thanks for leaving the note, I just got into work today and discussed it and realized we're still number 2. Delta values DTW, but MSP may eventually catch up. At DTW the focus is expanding markets already served as opposed to new destinations. Again thanks for leaving the note for me. -Abojanow
It's interesting that you have an opportunity to get inside information it seems like, 1. What sites/sources do you recommend for extra info about the airport? 2. Hi there again, the information I use is open to the public. I generally use news articles to prove validity but I also question the source (unlike a few edits the article wasn't true). I work for the airlines at DTW so I only relay things that can be communicated to the public, without of course revealing safety concerns. Thanks again! -Abojanow
Detroit Airports
[edit]Detroit may have 3 airports in the area. We only disambiguate them if all of the airports have scheduled passenger and cargo service (YIP and DET are only general aviation) only scheduled passenger and cargo service are at DTW. DTW Mainline vs. Seasonal
[edit]Hello! Thank you for your work on DTW Airport, it is really appreciated! I recently removed SDF and LEX from the destionation tables as they are not operating at all through the end of DL's schedule in August 2017. I also almost removed CMH since there were some odd flights this past month, the last of which is tommorow, but then there are not any more flights through the end of the current schedule. However, the schedule is subject to chage, so I will reevaluate this route in a week or two.
In regards to CVG, the old summer seasonal A320 route to DTW was eliminated from the schedule a while ago, as DL is eliminating all A320 service from CVG, as there is not an A320 pilot base at CVG. Those operations to LAX, LAS, SFO, SEA, SLC, BOS, LGA, JFK, MCO, TPA, FLL, and RSW are being replaced by the 737H/739 and MD88/90, which have pilot bases at CVG. Just this past week DL added 717 service to CVG in order to get rid of an old CRJ-200, by replacing a CRJ-900 with a 717 from BOS-CVG-DEN-CVG-DTW-CVG-BOS routing and put that CRJ-900 on an CRJ-700 route, which was put on the old CRJ-200 route. (Its very confusing, hence why I am not reverting your edit, since I cannot possibly source all of this! I use flightaware/google flights/matrix to figure this stuff out.) The A320 service in the summer was a way to get extra revenue in between the 2 daily SLC flights at CVG. In addition, DEN was most likely picked to be upgraded to mainline in order to compete with UA's new mainline service and DL is making a major push from BOS. Similar to the A320 in the summer, the DTW segment helps keep the aircraft moving. So, unless the DEN/BOS flights preform poorly (Which I highly doubt) it is actually very likely that CVG-DTW will have one mainline flight year-round, but until the schedule is extended, I cannot prove it easily. Also, another helpful tip for checking mainline flights, find the flight on Flight Aware, and look at the flight number's history. If you see multiple flights on that route, it is most likely a regularly scheduled flight, however if most of the routes are to different cities, it is either for a special event or geting an aircraft somewhere else, not a regularly scheduled flight.
