Fighting vandalism

[edit]

Hi James - welcome to Wikipedia! You asked me about fighting vandalism. There's a lot of us who do it, and lots of techniques. I stumbled across the Penwith vandalism through looking at the "Recent changes" (left hand side, in the navigation box) and hiding logged on users - most vandalism (though not all) comes from users with no login. Then I pick up on candidates (such as "why would any anonymous user want to edit "potato"?) and view the diff. If it's vandalism, I revert it, and watch the user's previous and subsequent contributions for a while (I tend to do that by viewing the article history and clicking on the IP address of the vandal). Other people do different things (watch logged on users, articles on the home page or whatever). Anyway, have fun editing, and enjoy Wikipedia!
