Notable players sections

[edit]

Please don't add "notable players" sections to football articles without stating the reason why the players listed are notable. See this template for further information. Thank you. - Dudesleeper / Talk 18:47, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

FC Schalke 04

[edit]

I'm not very convinced by the rationale you've used for the (second!) Notable players section you've added to FC Schalke 04. The Manual of Style for football clubs states the players should be:

Noted players of the club, who have had a major impact on the club's history. The section should use external sources for the list, not the personal opinions of editors.

Firstly, you do not state criteria for inclusion or exclusion other than a vague:

...notable for their exploits with their respective national team..., on club level ... or personal records

You should state something along the lines of "the following players were Schalke players of the year". The list should be externally referenced, rather than the sources you have which just include all Schalke players, with no comment on their importance or otherwise. Additionally, as stated in the MOS, a player's exploits with a national team are not relevant to an article on a club side. Dancarney (talk) 07:01, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What you've added hasn't helped. It still doesn't comply with the Manual of Style, as I've noted above. Including the following:

Please note that not all players had a considerable impact on Schalke, despite their success elsewhere and high expectations from Schalke fans and officials

is beside the point, and is also POV. Dancarney (talk) 13:49, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
