But if you do, you need to declare it and follow the guidelines outlined above. ButlerBlog (talk) 14:08, 4 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies for this! We're publishing a book about Fran Striker, the controversial creator of The Lone Ranger. There's very little written about Striker, and he's no longer given credit in the modern movies, shows, books, etc about TLR. However, Trendle, the guy who pretty much took advantage of Striker and stole the property, continues to get credit long after his death. The book has been extensively researched and is written with the support of Striker's family.
I realize the author himself may have gotten out of hand earlier, so I was trying to be a bit more controlled in our approach. I think it's important for this book to be listed on The Lone Ranger page and the Fran Striker page. Most of the references in those sections have been used for the research of this novel. But a lot of those references tend to skew one way or the other (e.g., Fran Striker's grandson's book is a little to heavy-handed on what happened between Striker and Trendle, and others cast one or the other in a not entirely fair light). I'm fine if it's just a note in the further reading category. Angifford (talk) 14:19, 4 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The book added to Lone Ranger appears to be a novel. Even if it's firmly based on factual events, that's not exactly the type of book that is suited to the bibliography of an encyclopedia article where scholarly/academic sources are preferred. I'll grant you that what's in the existing sources and further reading definitely does not all fit the standards we're driving towards, but that's not a reason to add to that. If anything, it highlights the fact that the whole thing is in need of further editing. ButlerBlog (talk) 16:28, 4 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
