'Government College, Kottayam is an arts and science college accredited B grade by NAAC , run by the state Government of Kerala.It is affiliated to the Mahatma Gandhi University and is located in Nattakom, close to Kottayam in central Kerala.The college formally inaugurated by Sri.C.Achutha Menon,Cheif Minister of Kerala on October 27,1972.
The college is established in the public sector to fulfill the aspirations of the common man and the mission is to provide affordable and excellent education to all,especially the socially and economically challenged groups with the best available resources and man power.The college aims at imparting education that would liberate man from ignorance to the light of knowledge ,leading to well-being at all.It represents the desire to give light to those in poverty and literacy. The college offers postgraduate & undergraduate courses in Geology,Physics,Economics and undergraduate courses in Industrial Chemistry,Mathematics,Botany,Aquaculture,Commerce.The Centre for continuing education,Kerala in the college offers diploma courses in DTP and MS office, Hardware and Networking and in Computerised Instrumentation.
