Orpington
[edit]I am sorry if I have caused offence. I do not normally remove information - please let me explain why I did so on this occasion.
Many edits ago, this paragraph was about the character of Orpington as a commuter town. As more information has been added about the transport services, this point has got lost. I feel it is important to explain how strongly commuter services have influenced the development of Orpington. I've encountered a lot of Wikipedia articles on places that give you lots of statistics/facts, but don't really tell you why people choose to live there.
Would it be okay with you to split off the transport services into a separate paragraph? Then we could go into more detail, not only about Eurostar, but also about how easy it is to reach the Thameslink services from London Bridge, and the DLR at Lewisham.
A separate point - technically, administratively, Orpington is no longer in Kent. There used to be a sentence which read something like " Historically, Orpington was part of Kent: since the 1965 boundary changes, it is now part of the largest London borough, Bromley". This has recently been expanded into a whole paragraph, by User:Mrsteviec (who has contributed a huge amount to Wikipedia on many aspects of London). In this case adding more detail may actually have reduced clarity. Please could you alter the sentence you added to the first paragraph to make it consistent with the rest of the article?
I hope we can work amicably together to make this article even better. CarolGray 11:08, 24 January 2006 (UTC)
