Updating images[edit]

Hi! Thanks for continuously updating the CA CCW map. For future reference, if you would like to update an image, the best practice is to upload a new version of that image on top of the old one instead of uploading a separate new one. You can do this by viewing the image on Commons — there is a link to it at the top (e.g. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:CA_CCW_Counties_JAN_2018V3.2.png) — then scroll down to the File history section, then click Upload a new version of this file. Hi. I see that you updated this file again but again uploaded a new file. I also see that you updated the existing version, so there was no need to upload a new version of the file again. You may have continued to see the old version because it was cached in your browser. You need to bypass-cache-reload (CTRL + SHIFT + R or CTRL + F5) to see the change. Hi! I don't really know how to do what you are asking above. When I try to update the image as you suggest I get an error that says a file by that name already exists even though it is a different file name. Uploading the new file is the easiest way to get it to display. Sorry, I'm a novice at this Wiki thing.Baggss01 (talk) 00:28, 21 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, because those files have already been uploaded and it's a mechanism to prevent duplicate uploads. You can bypass it by checking the "ignore warnings" box at the bottom of the upload page. Anyway, I've compiled all your uploads to the original image here: Wiki and Commons. In the future, please upload updates to the Commons link. Hi. Trying to upload the lates image. I get no "Ignore Warning" option at the bottom of the upload box. I'm changing the image simply by clicking on it in Edit mode and clicking CHANGE IMAGE. Is there another way to do this that I don't know about? Nevermind, I figured it out. Will do that from now on. Thanks for the assist!
