Howdy Billytkid ... re: your message on my update on The Dormy ...

see youve updated the page on the Dormy, do you live near Ferndown?

I live on the south coast but am not local to Ferndown ... it was just a quick drive across the Forest for me. Hence I've not got any general news on Ferndown, but I can report further on The Dormy.

im keen to see if you have any local news. Also where did the photos come from?

One of my passions is exploring and photographing interesting old/derelict buildings. Hence I popped to visit The Dormy one morning recently with some fellow urban explorers and spent several hours looking at the main building, the swimming pool/leisure centre, and also one of the houses which appeared to have been used for office and laundry purposes. Simple time considerations meant that I didn't look around the conference building, or the smaller accommodation buildings.

A very full set of those photographs can be found on my site at ue.veehicular.net. There is also a short video on YouTube (tho' annoyingly I forgot to record any video footage in the pool/leisure centre since I tend to get caught up in my photography).

On the day we visited, security contractors were securing the pool/leisure building with serious metal shuttering. Previously when others had visited the site to photograph it, the pool building ... whilst being used by local boarders/BMXers ... was in an OK state. But clearly the vandalism had escalated ... it appeared that there'd been a fire set in the pool recently from the smell of fresh smoke. We were very lucky and were given access by the security contractors to the building thru' the last remaining unsecured section prior to them completing their work.

The vandalism on the rest of the site is also getting worse. One of the people I was with had visited a couple of months earlier and was shocked to see how much things had changed. For example the main section of glass linkway was previously undamaged, but now has many windows smashed and most of the the signage is smashed.

I don't know what De Vere's plans are for the site, but it appears to be going downhill quickly! History has shown that once the vandals run out of things to smash, they start burning things instead ... let's hope that doesn't happen!

Hope you find the photos/video interesting!
