Conflict of interest – Africanis

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Bokaapje. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Africanis, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Cavalryman (talk) 12:02, 6 January 2021 (UTC).[reply]

Hi Cavalryman
Thank you for your note.
I have no affiliation with any of the organisations mentioned on the Africanis article, and have no conflict(s) of interest to declare with respect to my contributions. I am also not engaging in promotion. I am interested in understanding the Africanis dog and have contacted ASSA and KUSA for clarification on the topic. In particular, I have sought clarification of the dog vs landrace question. ASSA responded with supporting information which I have reviewed and used to make corrections and additions to the article. I also obtained permission from ASSA to publish their supporting documents.

You have stated here that you are making edits at the behest of the ASSA, that is a conflict of interest. The ASSA have previously attempted to make amendments to the Africanis page, AfriCanissoc (talk · contribs), and have been blocked from Wikipedia indefinitely, I suggest you take this seriously the same may happen to you. Cavalryman (talk) 12:38, 6 January 2021 (UTC).[reply]
My connection to ASSA is limited to my enquiries around the origins of the Africanis. I am not editing the article at the behest of the ASSA. In the statement which you reference, I asserted that I had been asked by the ASSA to make corrections. I mentioned this as background to the fact that I was sharing a private email. I did not state that I was acting on the ASSA's behalf. And, in fact, I am not making these contributions on the ASSA's behalf or at their "behest", which is a false assumption on your part Cavalryman. I appreciate your editorial efforts but I find your implicit threat of banishment from Wikipedia, based on assumptions, to be unwarranted and hostile. It doesn't do much to encourage me to contribute further to Wikipedia. On the other hand, you have not addressed the fact that the claim that the Africanis is a breed is unfounded; do you have a personal interest in making this claim? I would very much appreciate it though Cavalryman if you could help me to incorporate the letter from KUSA to ASSA, posted on the talk page of the article, into the Wikipedia content in the appropriate manner.
