Re: Waits' Alice[edit]

Hello. Thanks for your message. My concern when I reverted you was the overlinking and repetition in that section. When I edited it further, I realized there were other problems. You are correct about the spelling of Chamberlin, and that needs to be fixed. I suppose that saying "Chamberlin vibes," where accurate, would not be a problem, but it can't be linked, as there is no such article. And there is no reason to link Chamberlin more than once in that section. We want to be as specific as we can, without confusing readers who are not familiar with some of the strange instruments Waits is wont to use. I would be very interested in hearing more about your research. Though I am not a musician myself, I write experimental/sci-fi performance pieces (combining theatre, music, sound effects, film, etc.) and am greatly influenced by Waits' music. ---The Old JacobiteThe '45 14:25, 26 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Waits' Alice[edit]

Thanks!

I went ahead and edited the typos.

How would one go about adding chamberlin to the title track? The liner notes doesn't mention it, but anyone with at least one ear can hear it. I'll have a look at some of the other album-wikis in time, but I'll stay away from the major edits until my thesis is finished. When doing major edits (i.e. adding sub-topics) one should announce them in the talks page?

I saw that you made the edits, which I appreciate. I intended to do it, but forgot. If you have another source that says he used chamberlin on the title track, go ahead and add it. What the article could really use is a "recording" section, which would deal with how Waits chose that group of musicians, most of whom he had never played with previously, the extensive use of instruments he had never employed before, etc. In such a section, we would need good sources, assuming they exist. It is a good idea to discuss major changes on the talk page first, yes, though this is not always done. Let me know if I can be of any further assistance. ---The Old JacobiteThe '45 17:23, 26 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Great. I also added a link from "circular violin" to "nail violin". They're the same - but I really don't know how Waits found that name for it. The instrument is probably home made. A recording section should be made, but they would need be the same for Alice and Blood Money. Mule Variations should have one as well. Bone Machine has one I see, though it could be extended with focus on the degredation of sound quality he introduces here. I have made several sonogram analysis of his songs, I don't know if this could be used in that respect. Bonevariations (talk) 17:32, 26 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
And the sources excists, I think he talks a bit about the selection method - something about his wife being the catalyst for many of the choices, but I wouldn't necessarily call Mr. Waits a good or reliable source :)Bonevariations (talk) 17:38, 26 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
