You might want to participate in some of WP:AFD discussions as as a good way to get your 500 edits quickly (lots of discussions you can participate in) and also understand policy. Mostly editors will be discussing WP:GNG and WP:RS, which are two important topics to understand. Also when editing existing articles (such as Bitcoin) you will want to understand WP:DUE.
