Welcome!

Hello Broomhalla, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Smeggysmeg 16:00, 8 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

An editor has nominated GWR 7800 Class 7812 Erlestoke Manor, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not"). Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/GWR 7800 Class 7812 Erlestoke Manor and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. A concern was brought up on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Trains/Locomotives task force that an article you contributed content to, LNER Class V1/V3, contained large sections lifted word-for-word from the LNER Encyclopedia. I looked into it and it does seem that you cut and pasted text straight from that website into Wikipedia. I've removed it and deleted the revisions in question. Facts are not copyrighted and you can certainly copy any information you find elsewhere into Wikipedia; however, the wording is copyrighted and you should never use another site's wording (short quotations explicitly marked as such are an exemption when necessary, which doesn't count here).

Please don't copy content from other websites to Wikipedia.

I note that you've edited a fairly large number of locomotive articles; have you copied content wholesale to any of those?

Thanks in advance for your cooperation, Matthew Brown (Morven) (T:C) 22:12, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Preserved locomotives on WC class article.

[edit]

Dear Broomhalla, I have noticed that you have tabulated preserved locos and their locations/status etc. on the above article. All this information is on the main list page for the classes which was the subject of much controversy when it was first created, with it being threatened with deletion. However, the article's FA status depended on the 'de-cluttering' of the article in terms of photography and such tables, with the detailed class information put on the list page, which is intended to be an appendix for the article, which would be superfluous to requirements and a cluttered main article if we start moving things about again.

I mention this in order to emphasise that if the table you have created is once again deleted, please do not be offended. However, the FA status that has been painstakingly achieved after consultation with the reviewers, might be affected if tables start re-appearing. Please understand that this is down to consensus amongst a group of editors, and not the whim of the lead editor. However, I wish to thank you for your interest in the article. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
