Hey there
[edit]OK Bruce the website is pretty useful, why don't add your site back into the external links list.
Nah, no relation whatsoever it was Pyrards book that I read just before i started contributing to Wikipedia. An alias and a little tribute. "Faranji" an archaic work for western europeans, this word probably came into use becasue the lingua franca in the days of the crusades was french. Analogous to the word "lingua franca" you could say.
So where are you from. —Preceding unsigned comment added by FaranjiPyrard (talk • contribs) 16:09, 25 December 2008 (UTC)
I live outside London, but I am originally from Boston Brucelynn2 (talk) 12:15, 11 March 2009 (UTC)
Conflict of interest
[edit]Apart from WP:EL, I looked up your site on Google and saw here that the site you are trying to link here is your own. Please look over WP:COI. We don't normally allow people to link to sites in which they are affiliated. Wikipedia is not a vehicle of promotion or advertising. Thank you. I've reverted your edit, the link doesn't belong. I don't agree with your extremist interpretation of 'no promotion or advertising'. My Maldive site is as much a useful resource of reference information as any Wiki article. Only, it uses database filtering which Wiki technology does not support. I get no commercial gain fromm the site (nothing is sold, no advertising is referred). Yes, I authored the material/site, but everyone who contributes to Wikipedia is 'promoting' their 'content'. I created the Maldives site with the same intentions of providing comprehensive, authoritative, objective and useful information that drives all Wiki contributors. I would put it all up on Wikipedia if the technology allowed, but it doesn't.
Also, that is why the link was vetted by site moderator Pyrard who concurred its utility. Are you saying that if someone else posted the external link to it, then you would be fine with it? I get dozens of emails every day saying how useful the site is.
How about stop playing bully cop for a second ask youself in the true spirit of Wikipedia 'would this site help people interested in the subject of this wiki entry with further useful reference information?'
- The true spirit of Wikipedia is to keep people on Wikipedia instead of directing them off to other sites. It is about building up the encyclopedia itself instead of using its pages for spinoff websites. There is no encyclopedic material on that site worth citing in Wikipedia and nothing worth linking to outside of it. I'm sorry. Themfromspace (talk) 11:54, 12 March 2009 (UTC)
